Local Business Spotlights: Where to Eat, Shop & Explore in Northern NJ
One of the best ways to get to know a new town is through its local businesses. Here are some of my favorite spots across Bergen and Hudson Counties — the places I recommend to clients, friends, and neighbors.
Last updated: July 3, 2026
As of early July 2026, the Northern NJ dining and retail scene continues to evolve. New additions this update include Faro Kitchen, a fast-casual Mediterranean spot that opened on Central Avenue in Fort Lee in June, and LaNoma Italian Steakhouse on Hudson Street in Fort Lee. Tatte Bakery + Cafe has also announced a new Paramus location for summer 2026, and Blue Bottle Coffee is opening its first New Jersey location at Garden State Plaza. Bandic Coffee in Englewood, Toastique in Ridgewood's Garber Square, and COFFEECOL's roastery on West Palisade Avenue in Englewood round out the latest coffee and dining finds. Ventanas Restaurant and Lounge at The Modern in Fort Lee, Patisserie Florentine in Englewood, and Jersey City's thriving brewery scene with Departed Soles and 902 Brewing Co. remain standouts. Several of the restaurants and cafes featured below have recently expanded hours or added seasonal outdoor dining, making summer an ideal time to explore.
After years of helping clients find their perfect Northern NJ neighborhood, I've learned that the best way to evaluate a community is to spend time there. Walk the downtown. Grab a coffee. Try a restaurant you've never heard of. The local business scene tells you more about a town than any listing description ever could.
Here's a curated collection of spots across our covered towns that I genuinely recommend. These aren't paid placements — they're places I've visited, vetted, and come back to again and again.

The Takeaway
The local business scene is one of the biggest reasons people choose to stay in Northern NJ once they move here. These aren't chain restaurants — they're the kind of places where the owner knows your name after your third visit, where the staff remembers your order, and where you run into your kids' teachers on a Saturday afternoon. From Fort Lee's Korean cuisine capital to Hoboken's waterfront dining and Jersey City's rapidly evolving restaurant corridor, every town has its own food identity.
If you're thinking about making a move and want to experience these communities firsthand, I always tell clients to start with a Saturday morning farmers market or a Friday night dinner downtown. That's when you get the real feel for a town. And I'm always happy to share more recommendations based on what you're looking for.
